I was very fortunate to have been raised in a loving home by both of my parents.
However, I know that is not the case with so many families.
Over the years, I've had many, many requests to write
Mother's Day and Father's Day poems
that would be suitable for Simplers to give to another loved one
(such as a foster parent, aunt or uncle, grandparent, step parent, etc.)
that provided the loving home and guidance
that an absent birth parent was unable to give.

Therefore, "Tears of Love" was written with ALL kinds of parents in mind.

When I was just an infant
and was sick but finally slept --
You were right beside me,
exhausted as you wept.

As I began to walk and talk
discovering life at each new phase,
Tears of excitement welled in your eyes
as you echoed encouragement and praise.

At each new milestone of my life,
filled with promise or of pain --
I've watched you brush the tears away,
hoping only for my gain.

Tears of sorrow --
Tears of pride --
Tears of joy --
All tears you've cried.

Is it any wonder that my eyes see
the many tears of love you've shed for me?
I love you more than words can say,
My tears match yours in this same way.
