Although my grandmother died when I was young,
she left enough memories for me to keep in my heart for a lifetime.
However, a physical memory she left was a rich legacy of needlework.
In fact, the only time I can remember seeing my grandmother
without needlework in her lap, was because her Bible was there instead.
I guess that was to be expected of a preacher's wife.
Quite often, when my grandfather would marry a young couple,
the new bride would give Grandma a lace hankie as a token of thanks and remembrance.
After awhile, she had quite a collection of beautiful lace hankies.....
and then she decided to use them in her quilts!
Grandma carefully quartered and cut several of the hankies
and used them as embellishments behind the calico fabrics
in her own "Grandmother's Fans" quilt.

This version of "Grandmother's Fans" reflects the tiny cross stitched calicos
that have the look of hand appliquéd work accompanied by delicate lace.
For variety, stitch the set in Blues or Purples.

Rotate the blocks as you attach them.
Be sure to make your pillows in several colors!
