If you prefer to use lowloft batting, you will still get a trapunto effect, just not as pronounced. Adhesive batting works well, provided you can gently separate the edges so the batting is not caught in seams along with the fabric. 1.) Hoop your quilt fabric and stabilizer. These two pieces make up your quilt face. 2.) Slide batting underneath your hoop (do NOT re-hoop). 3.) Slide a layer of muslin (or other quilt backing fabric) under the batting. These four pieces make your quilt sandwich. 4.) Stitch the complete embroidery file. 5.) Un-hoop and trim your quilted sandwich with a rotary cutter. Repeat steps 1-5 for each embroidered quilt block and each embroidered sashing. 6.) To piece sandwiches together, lay two sandwiches quilt face to quilt face (right sides together). 7.) On your machine, stitch two quiltfaces together. Do NOT stitch batting together. Instead, lap one piece of batting over the other and smooth it out. 8.) Press seams open. 9.) Fold backing pieces pieces and whip stitch the seams. Repeat steps 6-9 to connect the rows. 10.) Make 9 long sashing sandwiches from coordinating fabric, quilt batting, and backing fabric to go between each embroidered row. 11.) To piece rows together, lay two rows quiltface to quiltface (right sides together). 12.) On your machine, stitch the two rows together. 13.) Press seams open. Do NOT stitch batting together. Instead, lap one row of batting over the other and smooth it out. 14.) Fold back muslin and whip stitch the seams. Repeat steps 10-14 (with the exception of only making 4 long sashings) for outermost sashings. Bind edges of quilt. Enjoy!
